Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - Lettuce Wraps with Vegetables & Noodles

 

It's "Tasty Tuesday", where every week we bring you new, fresh, local, healthy recipes and food tips. Find out what is in season, and what will keep you fuelled during and after your work outs!

 

It's so hard to get through an entire cabbage as one person, so this recipe came out of a need to eat it while it was still nice and purple! I don't make lettuce wraps too often, but I really love the crunch of them and when the veggies are cold and crisp. I added soba noodles for good measure, but this recipe is another great way to eat the what is in your crisper before they go off!

 

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:

 

It's late winter almost early spring, so I'm using lots of veggies that are in season. If you're making this in a different season, use the veg that is growing at that time! Butter lettuce is great for the wraps because of their size and durability, but regular lettuce, or even endives, will do the trick in a pinch!

Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - Egg Salad Sandwich with Avocado, Radishes & Sprouts

 

It's "Tasty Tuesday", where every week we bring you new, fresh, local, healthy recipes and food tips. Find out what is in season, and what will keep you fuelled during and after your work outs!

 

Sometimes you just really want an egg salad sandwich, but if you're like me, most of the time they have too much mayo. Well it's my opinion that avocado is natures mayonnaise, and vegan mayo tastes the exact same as the normal stuff (most major brands are making their own vegannaise now!).

The radishes add a great crunch to the sandwich, and a pop of colour (you can always use the tried and true celery here instead if you're not a radish fan).

 

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:

 

Make an open face sandwich to eliminate some bread, or put it in a whole wheat wrap! Add in some more veg, eliminate the mayo altogether, or go for just the egg whites. (If you really miss the yellow that the yolks gives you, add a bit of ground turmeric and brighten it up!)

Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - *Fresh Prep's: Naan Flatbread Pizza w/ Pesto Ricotta, Tomatoes, w/ Spinach Walnut Salad

It's "Tasty Tuesday", where every week we bring you new, fresh, local, healthy recipes and food tips. Find out what is in season, and what will keep you fuelled during and after your work outs!

We've partnered with Vancouver company Fresh Prep for last week and this one to bring you today's Tasty Tuesday recipe.

How does Fresh Prep work, you might ask? - You just create an account and tell them your taste (meat, veg, fish, gluten or dairy free etc) and delivery preferences when you sign up. Then every week, they deliver you prepped and portioned ingredients for however many meals you’d like along with easy to follow recipe cards for you to cook meals in under 30mins!

I lean towards fish and veggie dishes (if you couldn't already tell via the weekly recipes), so last week I chose a Miso Glazed Salmon dish, and this week I'm featuring a Naan Flatbread with Salad! Check out my photos of the process below and the recipe itself!

Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - Spot Prawn Sunomono


It's "Tasty Tuesday", where every week we bring you new, fresh, local, healthy recipes and food tips. Find out what is in season, and what will keep you fuelled during and after your work outs!

Spot Prawn season is upon us once again! These sustainable crustaceans arrive at the fisherman's wharf this weekend for the annual Spot Prawn Festival - taking place on Sunday afternoon.

This is the 10th year of the festival and to celebrate they're also running cooking lessons at the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts on Saturday, and fancy gala on the 13th (Friday).

This week's recipe comes from founder of the festival, Chef Robert Clark, for a simple poached spot prawn recipe. It's tangy and fresh and perfect for a side dish or a fancy dinner. Check it out below

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:

Spot Prawns are closely monitored to ensure that they'll be sustainable for years to come. You can get them live for this limited window of time, but you'll find them frozen throughout the city at speciality fish shop throughout the year (like I did for this recipe). This dish is an excellent side for an early summer BBQ, just be sure not to overindulge on the mains too!
