Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - Banana Earl Grey Muffins

 

 

 

It's "Tasty Tuesday", where every week we bring you new, fresh, local, healthy recipes and food tips. Find out what is in season, and what will keep you fuelled during and after your work outs!

 

It looks like the weather is going to be slightly less dreary but I made these banana muffins one cold ,rainy afternoon and they're still delicious. Make them on a Sunday for brunch and if you make them in mini-form you can take them on the go on the way to Barre!

There isn't much more you can do to these as they are sugar free, made with oats and whole wheat flour, and are dairy-free as well! Maybe just eat them in moderation/share with friends, neighbours or your Barre BFF!

Going camping this long weekend? Missing that campfire s'more taste? Put all of those ingredients into a healthy energy ball that you can make ahead, freeze, and take with you on a hike, as a snack, in lieu of campfire s'mores, or...after Barre class!

Uhh, eliminate the marshmallows? But what fun is that!? These are full of so much goodness, vegan, and have no-added sugar (aside from those mallows!).

Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - Matcha Granola Bars - Happy #StPatricksDay

I combined two things I really wanted to make this week into this recipe: Granola Bars and something green!

We're in the beginning of the latest Barre Body Fitness Challenge and sometimes you have to fit a class in between meals. I wanted a good homemade bar that I could grab on the go to keep me fuelled before/after a workout. Also, it's St. Patrick's Day this week, so why not make them green!

 

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:

 

The best part with granola bars is that you can use much of what you have on hand and things are easily substituted. Don't have dried cranberries? Use dried blueberries, or dates, or another dried fruit. Switch up the nuts, or use more pumpkin seeds if you don't have sunflower.

This breakfast is super easy to make, tasty, and can be loaded up with so much goodness. Adjust the spices to your liking, shake with your favourite non-dairy milk, leave overnight and grab it to go the next morning or put your favourite frozen fruit in it!

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:

You can add a lot of great toppings, but go for what is in season, or you have frozen in the freezer! Hemp seeds, dried cranberries, or nuts are also great options.

Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - Peanut Butter Cranberry Protein Bites


It's "Tasty Tuesday", where every week we bring you new, fresh, local, healthy recipes and food tips. Find out what is in season, and what will keep you fuelled during and after your work outs!

I'm so glad I decided to make these, they're such a great snack for after (or before) Barre, and are crazy easy to make...they don't even need to be cooked or baked!

Basically, you can substitute or add in some other things. If you don’t want cranberries, you can put in dried cherries or blueberries. Dates are also optional but are a good call.
Can add more maple syrup if you want it sweeter…

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:

Make sure you use organic peanut butter so you don't have tons of added sugar in there (can use almond butter if you want).

Make approx. 8-10 (can be doubled)

INGREDIENTS:

- 1/2 cup oats
- 1/4 cup hemp seeds
- 1/4 cup chia seeds
- 1/4 cup dried cranberries
- 2 small dates
- 1/3 cup peanut butter
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- zest of 1 lemon
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- pinch of sea salt

INSTRUCTIONS:

Pulse all ingredients in a food processor until combined.

Roll into balls approx. an inch in size.

Can be kept in the fridge for about a week or frozen for about a month.

Are you sick of this rain too? I just want to hide in bed all day where it's warm and dry, but recipes like that actually make getting up for breakfast enjoyable.

Rolled oats and apples (in season now, and there are some great local varieties), baked in the oven? Yes please. You can also make a lot at the same time, so it would be great for holiday brunches with the family or friends!

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:

Make it dairy free and use your favourite nut or soy milk, and skip the sugar by using maple syrup (or honey).

Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - Pumpkin Muffins

I don't drink coffee so I haven't gotten into the pumpkin spice craze as much as the rest, but I do love spice cupcakes and they make me think of fall, so I decided to try a healthy muffin alternative with no sugar, and try and make them vegan, which is pretty simple with this one as you can make flax eggs instead of regular ones. If you don't mind eggs, by all means switch it back. I'll make a note.

Either way, cozy up with some spice muffins and tea this weekend! Or grab one on the go on the way to class.

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:

Add in some dried fruit or frozen berries left over from the summer. Or some nuts or cacao nibs. The world is your oyster...just don't add oysters.

Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - Overnight Oats with Kiwi

Happy New Year and happy first week of the New Year, New You Challenge at Barre. I'm going to make the January recipes even healthier, and super easy for you to make before and after your workouts!

Speaking of quick and easy, this breakfast is about as simple as it gets. Oats, chia seeds, almond milk, kiwi, and a bit of maple syrup...toss them together at night and eat it in the morning before you head to Barre!

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:
You can feel free to add other fruit to this mix if you'd like, I would suggest mangos or strawberry, but kiwis are an excellent base. It's in season in California right now, and therefore plentiful, and is PACKED with the good stuff. Seriously, there's Vitamin C and K, high in fibre, helps digestion and creates alkaline balance.
