Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - Farro Salad with Dried Cranberries, Golden Raisins & Pistachios


It's "Tasty Tuesday", where every week we bring you new, fresh, local, healthy recipes and food tips. Find out what is in season, and what will keep you fuelled during and after your work outs!

Winter salads are some of my favourites, you get a kick of fruit (be it dried), and nuts for crunch, and the base possibilities are endless. I had some farro grains kicking around and went looking for a recipe to work with.

I combined a few ideas and tweaked the ingredients a bit (and debated making it a breakfast bowl), and landed with this mixture. Feel free to substitute the nuts for whatever you have on hand (walnut might be a good alternative), and regular raisins for golden, or apricots for the cranberries. This is an easy one to work with what's in the cupboards.

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:

There's not much more you can do to this salad to make it even healthier, but you can always pack it with even more good stuff. Allergies? Go nut free. Gluten free? Try quinoa instead of farro. You could even wilt some spinach and stick it in there or throw in a handful of chickpeas!

Dine Out Vancouver - Our Picks for Bufala!

I really wanted to find a great lunch spot from the list of restaurants, that still fit the clean, fresh eating goal, and Bufala was a stand out (note: they're ONLY doing Dine Out lunches). There's something to be said about eating a really good pizza that doesn't make you feel greasy afterwards. Their stone fired oven delivers light and airy pizzas with exceptionally good toppings. Tons of veggie options to choose from too.

Another bonus: You can get 2 courses for $20, or 3 for $25, so if you take a friend you can split a dessert, or just get an appetizer and a pizza. So many possibilities, but here's what I went with....

Up until this week I've only ever peered into Bambudda from the outside (full disclosure that photo is from warmer days a while back, as the facade of the building is under construction right now and not as purdy) and the inside is just as funky and cozy as I thought it would be.

Dine Out Vancouver 2017 - Our Picks!

One of the most celebrated times of year in the Vancouver food scene is upon us once again:
Dine Out Vancouver Festival!


Starting today (January 20) and running until February 5th, it features prix-fixe menus (of $20, $30 or $40) from over 280+ restaurants across the GVR, as well as events and experiences in all corners of the food world.

Naturally this had to come in the middle of our New Year, New You Challenge, where one of the goals was to eat clean. But never fear, we scoured the giant list of restaurants and events to bring your OUR picks for places that you can head out for an evening to sample and feast, and still feel great about afterward.


We'll be highlighting a few of our favourites throughout the festival, but here's a quick run down so you can book your reservations before they fill up!

Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - Parsnip & Carrot Chicken Noodle Soup


It's "Tasty Tuesday", where every week we bring you new, fresh, local, healthy recipes and food tips. Find out what is in season, and what will keep you fuelled during and after your work outs!

If it's not the snow & ice that made you want to burrow into a blanket fort with a cup of soup, the return of the rain just might. Parsnips are in season now and easy to find, so I threw them together in a soup with some carrots, homemade soup stock, chicken and egg noodles. Hits the spot!

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:

If you're veg, eliminate the chicken and double up on the veggies, actually, you can double up on the veggies either way - it all depends how chunk you like your soup! Have this with some whole wheat crackers or toast and you've got yourself a meal.

Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - Kiwi, Lime & Avocado Smoothie Bowl


It's "Tasty Tuesday", where every week we bring you new, fresh, local, healthy recipes and food tips. Find out what is in season, and what will keep you fuelled during and after your work outs!

New Year, New You continues and I hope you're all still on track with healthy eating plans! I checked out the #barreGOALS board the last time I was in the studio to see what everyone was hoping for and decided to make some recipes based on the 2017 goals. First up was "Eat Greens Everyday!".

Well today's smoothie bowl is DEFINITELY green and you get both fruit and veg out of it, plus whatever healthy toppings you want to add. I made the recipe and was getting full halfway through eating it, so it's enough for two almost. 

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:

There's nothing unhealthy about this recipe, but there can always be more good stuff added. Throw some coconut oil in there if you're feeling it, or blend some chia seeds right into the smoothie. Don't like kiwi? Try mango or more banana, or go with avocado slices if you're not feeling all the fruit. Just keep the greens as the base and you're golden

Hello 2017! Hello New Year New You!

It's the start of the fitness challenge at Barre, so I'm starting you off with breakfast and delicious green (tea) matcha muffins. Super simple, no sugar, no dairy, no eggs, whole wheat? Yup. This recipe is a keeper.

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:

I didn't add them in (I may have forgot) but you can totally add some fruit (blueberries or blackberries maybe) or some cacao nibs if you want a bit more of a kick!
