Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - Braised Kale & Turkey

It's "Tasty Tuesday", where every week we bring you new, fresh, local, healthy recipes and food tips. Find out what is in season, and what will keep you fuelled during and after your work outs!

We're so lucky that one of our favourite superfoods, Kale, has a year-round growing season! Spring has finally arrived and a larger variety of foods is coming with it, but this dish - borrowed from Nourished.ca - is great for those rainy days we've been having.

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:

Skip the meat and yogurt to make it vegan, and toss in more veggies if you're feeling it! As always making the dishes from scratch is the healthier way to go. Soak the chickpeas overnight and have them ready the next day. And pull some frozen stock out of the freezer that you made the last time you had leftover veggies!

Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - Berry Fruit Leather


It's "Tasty Tuesday", where every week we bring you new, fresh, local, healthy recipes and food tips. Find out what is in season, and what will keep you fuelled during and after your work outs!

It's finally spring, and the days are getting longer, but we're still a ways off from fresh fruit, so what's a girl to do?

Well, the answer, my friends, is: pull out the frozen fruit you stored from last summer out of the freezer and make something of it. Smoothies are a simple way to eat these but making a grown-up fruit roll up is way more fun. Not to mention they are easy and portable and you can bring them to Barre for an after workout snack!

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:
Experiment here maybe add some chia seeds... maybe make them spicy... or even make them with veggies (tomato basil). Whatever you imagine, just make sure you're using quality produce!

Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - Vegan Shamrock Shake


It's "Tasty Tuesday", where every week we bring you new, fresh, local, healthy recipes and food tips. Find out what is in season, and what will keep you fuelled during and after your work outs!

It's almost St. Patrick's Day! I was debating what to make this week, knowing it would have to be green, and then realized I should do a take on that yearly treat that everyone always lusts for: The McDonald's Shamrock Shake. I didn't just want to make a green smoothie and call it a day, so I tried to make get the taste and mouth feel as close and I could, and honestly, I was super happy with the result.

Feel free to garnish with a frozen cherry/berry if you've got one, or like I did, with a mint sprig.
But honestly, you're going to be too busy drinking this to think about garnish.


Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:
This shake is pretty straight forward, and has a lot of great stuff in it from spinach to banana, but like most other blended drinks feel free to add your own twist! Hemp seeds? Sure! Protein powder? Go for it! Coconut oil? Why not? Toss the items YOU need in there, but not too much that it overwhelms the other ingredients.

The latest Barre Body Fitness Challenge is on and I'm excited to bring you guys some great recipes to make while you stay fit. Fitting in the number of classes is one thing, but fuelling your body is a challenge in itself...so I decided that start with an healthy granola bar that you can make (and even freeze!) and take with you for before or after your workouts!

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:
It's hard to get much healthier than a recipe full of raw ingredients like this, but feel free to switch it up! Don't like cranberries? Swap for dried cherries. Try different kinds of nuts. Keep it healthy, but make sure you enjoy what you're eating!

Fashion Friday: From Barre to Boxing!


It's Fashion Friday!


Today, with the help of our friends over at Lululemon we've put together an outfit that can perfectly transition from Barre Class to Boxing Class.

Tasty Tuesday: Recipe - Zoodles & Clams


It's "Tasty Tuesday", where every week we bring you new, fresh, local, healthy recipes and food tips. Find out what is in season, and what will keep you fuelled during and after your work outs!

Clams are a year round, sustainable seafood, and readily available at the seafood counter or your local seafood shop! Making this dish with the can of organic clams is one thing, but throwing in some fresh baby clams with their gorgeous colouring makes it a bit classier. This is great for a hearty lunch or a dinner - double it if you have more than one person eating.

Make Your Meal Even Healthier Tip:
My mom liked to make a similar dish using linguini noodles, which I loved, and you can use pasta if you're in a pinch, but homemade, spiralized zucchini noodles are healthier and taste great. And they really take on the taste of the sauce in this dish! Mmm!
