Dine Out Vancouver - Our Picks!

One of the most celebrated times of year in the Vancouver food scene is upon us once again:
Dine Out Vancouver Festival!

Starting today (January 15) and running until January 31st, it features prix-fixe menus (of $20, $30 or $40) from over 280 restaurants across the GVR, as well as events and experiences in all corners of the food world.

Naturally this had to come in the middle of our New Year, New You Challenge, where one of the goals was to eat clean. But never fear, we scoured the giant list of restaurants and events to bring your OUR picks for places that you can head out for an evening to sample and feast, and still feel great about afterward.

We'll be highlighting a few of our favourites throughout the festival, but here's a quick run down so you can book your reservations before they fill up!

Read them all after the jump:

Zend Conscious Lounge
Yaletown
Price Point: $30

Vegetarian Options Offered: Yes
Vegan Options Offered: Yes
Gluten Free Options Offered: Yes

Our picks: You have two main options to chose from on the Zend menu: Raw or Cooked, and both look delicious. And since the ingredients are 100% organic and plant-based, there are no wrong choices. Seriously, good luck trying to decide which ones to sample. Our suggestion? Bring a friend that likes to share so you can have a bit of everything!

Forage
West End
Price Point: $30

Vegetarian Options Offered: Yes
Vegan Options Offered: No
Gluten Free Options Offered: No

Our picks: Forage is all about local and ethically sourced food, and at $30 this Dine Out menu is an excellent deal. As amazing as that pork belly might sound, if you're looking for healthy, aim for the Grilled Kale Salad to start, and the Chermoula Spiced Ancient Grains plate for your entree. You know they're going to be delicious.

Juniper
Chinatown
Price Point: $40

Vegetarian Options Offered: Yes
Vegan Options Offered: Yes
Gluten Free Options Offered: Yes

Our picks: One of Vancouver's newest restaurants will surely be a popular one for Dine Out, so make sure to book quickly. The menu covers a wide range of food including gluten free and vegan options (there is even a vegan dessert!). Might we suggest the Hazelmere Kale appetizer to start off with, and the Saskatchewan Back Lentil Cabbage Rolls for your main dish, and end with the Vegan Peanut Butter Nanaimo Bar because you've made such wise choices.

ORU Restaurant
Coal Harbour
Price Point: $40

Vegetarian Options Offered:Yes
Vegan Options Offered: No
Gluten Free Options Offered: Yes

Our picks: ORU is big on featuring food from the Pacific Northwest and putting it's own twist on thing. Located in Coal Harbour at the Fairmont Pacific Rim, this is a great place for a date or group night out. You can't go wrong with the menu as half of it is either veg or gluten free, but our picks include the Seared Qualicum Scallop as an appetizer and the Poached Arctic Char for your entree.

Royal Dinette
Coal Harbour
Price Point: $40

Vegetarian Options Offered: Yes
Vegan Options Offered: No
Gluten Free Options Offered: Yes

Our picks: Another big menu with great choices at your fingertips making it hard to narrow it down while your mouth waters. We'd say go for the Kale with Crispy Vegetables to start, the Whole Wheat Rigatoni for your main, and then perhaps the Dark Chocolate Tart to finish.

We didn't forget about you over on the North Shore or Coquitlam! Here are our suggestions from the GVR:

Feast Neighbourhood Table
North Shore
Price Point: $30

Vegetarian Options Offered: Yes
Vegan Options Offered: Yes
Gluten Free Options Offered: Yes

Our picks: Many of the options on the menu can be made gluten free or vegan, so have your pick! the Ribollita Soup and the Chickpea and Squash Curry were the two dishes that caught our eye.

Olive & Anchor
North Shore
Price Point: $30

Vegetarian Options Offered: Yes
Vegan Options Offered: No
Gluten Free Options Offered: Yes

Our picks: Whether you'd visiting Horseshoe Bay or have time before a ferry, be sure to come in for the Albacore Tuna Salad and the Hot Stone Korean Bibimbop. There are vegetarian and gluten free options as well, so kick back and relax knowing you're eating well.

The Wild Fig
Coquitlam
Price Point: $30

Vegetarian Options Offered: No
Vegan Options Offered: No
Gluten Free Options Offered: Yes

Our picks: This menu definitely makes us salivate, in particular the descriptions of the Arugula Pea Shoot Salad Fuse for the appetizer, and the Blackened Tuna entree. No what else we like? That they serve only Ocean Wise seafood and local & sustainably farmed food - which we're sure you'll like too.

EVENTS:

There are TONS of events going on throughout the festival, but there are a few in particular that caught our eye:

The Acorn & Odd Society Distiller's Dinner: While there is no Dine Out menu for The Acorn, you do have a chance to sample a 5 course dinner at this award winning vegetable-forward restaurant, as their pair their foods with samples from the local distillery Odd Society.

Yaletown Brunch Crawl: Make it a Sunday and take a class at Barre in the morning and then head out to the Yaletown Brunch Crawl, which includes the likes of Zend (see above), and Small Victory Bakery.
